I have been off the pill for over a year now and have been having unprotected sex the whole time. I am not charting or anything, although I have looked into it, but I am trying to just let it happen when it happens...however, I have gone months at a time with no period and i went to the doctors, i have a mildly elevated prolactin level, but they could find no cause or anything else wrong. This was in November and I got my period in December and then not again until March 10th....I also have my gall bladder removed when I was a teen...my question is should I be worried that i may be infertile? Anyone with any experiences?

I believe the saying goes that if you are TTC for a year and have no luck that you are diagnosed as having fertility issues. It doesn't mean youre not ever going to conceive. What you need to do is have your doc run a series of tests and see what is exactly causing you to miss so many periods. I am very similar to you. I'd get like 2 periods a year!! Then my OB/GYN put me on Metformin and that has helped regulate my periods better. I was diagnosed with PCOS and that is a common reason for not ovulating. If your periods aren't timely, it is going to be difficult to plan when to have sex. You can try using an ovulation kit or if you know your body you can tell. You'll discharge an egg white like substance when you ovulate and it will be slippery when you wipe.

FYI........it could also be an issue with your partner. Depending on your age and how bad you want to have children, I'd check into seeing someone ASAP. They will run a series of tests and send your partner in for a semen analysis to see if he has good sperm.

It can be a long process or it may not be. My GF just had a baby and she very seldom had periods. They put her on progesterone for a week and told her when to have sex and she got pregnant on her first round of clomid. Happy healthy baby.

Don't give up, just find out what is causing it.
Good luck

I was on the pill for a long time (early heavy periods) even before sexually active for heavy bleeding. Anyway when I went off the pill, it took me 3 yrs to get pregnant, we were also just letting it happen. I talked to my Dr. and he said unless we wanted one right then, it is not worth the cost of the testing. We were finally getting a lot worried and it happened. But beware after my first I did not get back on the pill (my mom died from breast cancer) so we used condoms and thought we would chance it once (since it took us 3 yrs) and I was on my period, and now we have 2 wonderful daughters. So I guess the old saying is true you are more fertile after you have a baby.

I had my appendix removed when I was 19 and it was actually the cause of my infertility for 9 years. I finally had a laporoscopy and my Dr. found that my leaking appendix had caused my ovaries to actually be pulled out of place. He corrected the problem and I have a beautiful 20 month old little boy now.
One year is not cause for too much alarm, but I would definitely be asking a lot of questions. Don't wait as long as I did to explore all your options.
Have you had your husband/partner checked? You may not be the issue at all. (If there is one.)
Best of luck to you!

Don't worry. When it is your time it will happen.I am also trying to conceive. One Thing you can also try when you do have a period have sex about The 13th and 14th day after your period. After sex lay in bed for a while and if possible put a pillow under you to keep your pelvic region elevated,to make it easier for the sperm to get to the egg.Good luck.Just keep your chin up.Good things come to those who wait.Have faith,it will happen.

I wouldn't worry to much.
When I went off the pill it took me 4 years to conceive.
I even went for fertility treatments and they did not take.
It was when we decided to give up,I finally conceived (Naturally)
If your worried about it go and see your doctor and have some tests done but my advice would be to just not worry about it and don't think about it to much either. When you relax your body will relax and the more relaxed you are the better your chances of becoming pregnant......Good luck
