Depends what type of hernia it is. If it isnt in the stomach area and is lower the can scope it. I had it done, and you will be off your feet for a few days. It wasnt too bad, they knock you out during the surgery so you dont feel anything until after. The side effects were there but not too bad. It hurts to urinate the first few times, and you will need pain killers for at least the first day or two. I weeded myself off the oxycotton after the first day, and took tylenol thereafter. I think you have to go back for follow-up before they let you do any physical exercise.

Pain is different for each individual. I would think you would be in a fair amount of pain after the first few days. I don't think you could really rip and roar around the basketball court for 4 - 6 weeks. But you need to get that repaired. Your intestines are protruding down through the lining of your stomach and/or other intestines. Ask your surgeon about recovery time. (Personally, I think the doctors always down play the amount of pain you will experience).

Depends on where the hernia is, I've had two hernia operations, both went exceedingly well, I walked away just a few short hours later, and haven't had any problems.
