Well, in order to save, you're going to have to do some spending unfortunately. My Electric & Gas bill used to average about $160 ea per month. This is just for a family of 5. I recently put in energy saving bulbs throughout the house and got rid of the 75W GE bulbs. I also replaced my aluminum frame single paned windows with vinyl framed Low E, argon gas filled windows. I threw out my old coil range cooktop and put in a newer more efficient model and I also added another layer of insulation in my attic. I've cut my bills in half. In one year, I've saved about $2000. In another 2 years...all those upgrades will have paid themselves off! Don't forget about asking for rebates from your utility company for your upgrades. Most of these improvements were also tax-deductible!

Here's an idea...We often unnecessarily heat our water when we don't need it....My parents have their hot water heater on a timer...it goes on in the morning and then off again late morning...leaving enough hot water for things like dishes and laundry....also you can override it in the case of out of town guests or other circumstances....I had no idea that it can really cut down your electricity bill...Other ideas are more obvious...keep your house warmer in the summer and cooler in the winter...even a few degrees can make a difference...and those low energy light bulbs can really make a difference too...but not as noticeable as that hot water heater timer! Good luck

Switch off anything that is on standby, use low energy light bulbs and switch of any that are not in use, only heat the one room that you are in at a time, use a hot water bottle instead of an electric blanket, put solar panels on you roof, put a wind turbine on your roof, insulate your walls and loft space as to much insulation is better than not enough, fix draft excludes on all door and windows.

If you have kids and they have pet hamsters give the hamster a wheel and let it charge a batteries.

You could also use a slay if you have dogs to pull it,

You need to know what appliances are costing you the most. You can buy a gadget that plugs into a 13 amp socket which will measure each one for you. It is brilliant. Then you will know what to cut down on. It is not obvious.

replace all incandescant lamps with spring/coil compact fluorescent. Cost for 30 lamps about $250-$300, monthly saving on electricity used about $70, payoff in about 4 months.

1. If you aint using it switch it off at the wall
2. Buy energy saving light bulbs.
Thats about it unless you have the money for wind turbines and solar panels.

never leave your t.v on standby this wastes about £8 month, especially if you have more than one appliance connected, turn lights off when not in use, shower lights turned off and not left on standby, less water in your kettle, only boil what you need, use a steamer for your veg as appose to all the cooker rings on and turn all plugs off when not in use, god do i sound a tight a**e or what but you asked
