Variable Air Volume. It controls the amount of air from the HVAC system that is sent to a particular area of a building. It is essentially a box with a damper and damper motor that controls the flow based on the need for temperature change. It may also have a heating element (electric or water) to reheat the air from the main air-handling unit. There is also a minimum position to allow fresh air into a space.
