First open the cd/dvd writing application installed on your computer, after that insert the blank disk in dvd drive, then see how the program displays information about the blank disk

this really may depend of the brand of blank DVD, some are much well accepted by computers such as memorex. This also may depend on your computer. Are you sure your computer can write dvds?

u must hav nero otherwise ur dvd drive wont read blank dvd as in case of cd drive got it!

look for firmware update! go to the manufacturer's website. for example, www.hp.com. look for drivers, then reinstall the driver or check for a firmware update. firmware updates, unlike driver updates, updates the hardware, not the software. might help.
