How come Congress does not protect the rest of the people of the United States the same way that they are protecting these attorneys who were fired for not doing their jobs?

Congress is spending millions on this firing issue. Why can't Congress work to protect jobs for the rest of the people in the United States the same way?

"At Will" means you can be fired for any reason or no reason.

I realize from the answers that a lot of uneducated people do not understand this.

You do not need a reason to fire an "At Will" employee.

If Congress wants to it can make firing an "At Will" employee illegal.

If Congress is going to investigate the firing of these "At Will" employees then they should investigate the firing of every "At Will" employee.

edit:

Congress can make firing of an "At Will" employee without reason illegal. God Forbid we should turn into France.

This has nothing to do with attorney's being fired and everything to do with democrats putting up a smokescreen to hide the fact that they haven't kept a single campaign promise and have gotten nothing done. they haven't even put in a single 5-day week since the elections. This is just camoflauge for their lies and ineptness.

Absolutely; I got lied on in a union job Railroad with Amtrak twice! People think unions protect employee's NOT true. I sought legal help all i got was the run-around! The reason it happen twice cause i fought back independently for reinstatement got it after two years no back pay! It was the station agent in Orlando Florida Marcia Kostival screwing me around to secure her nephew a job "Nepotism" I hope she real proud of her evil ways! I say end Republic of representative government make them true servant employees well managed "unlike now" subject to firing at will. Give the up or down vote with proof to the legal citizen Majority or "LCM" i am NOT impressed with a still "Do nothing Congress" That's what calls for structure change!

You're posing a false question. The issue at question is not whether or not these US attorneys were fired because they didn't support a certain political agenda. US Attorneys are not supposed to be used to further any agenda other than the US Constitution. Like you, I haven't seen the evidence and it may very well be a political witch hunt. However, if it's not, and they were fired for not being in-line with the party agenda, then it's wrong and it harms the judicial/legal process. If there were fired just because they were bad prosecutors with poor track records, then there's no problem. Nonetheless, the fact that they were removed in the middle of a term raises questions, and is, at the very least, worth looking into.

It is not the job of congress to investigate the firings of the employees of private companies. There are other government agencies for that. It IS the job of Congress to provide oversight to the actions of the Executive branch and also to to provide "advice and consent" to the appointment of federal attorneys. They are not "protecting" these attorneys, they are investigating to find out whether what you claim is true (that they were fired for poor performance) is a fact true or if they were fired for political reasons. Congress is doing their job in investigating, if there was no wrongdoing "your guys" should have nothing to worry about.

Oh I so agree! I was terminated from a job once after I suffered from an on-the-job injury. It was clearly wrongful termination, but the attorney's said that my employer would literally have to say the words "Im firing you because you filed for workers compensation." with witnesses, in order to have any case at all. Gotta love "at will" laws!

If you owned a company would you welcome the governments interference into your hiring practices. I have owned a company for 5 years and if I were not to let go of a poor performing employee I would probably be letting everyone go in the next year or so. I have 2 employees who earn more than I do. I annot hire someone to make up the slack without letting the other go. I can't afford to goodwill myself out of business and into the welfare line.

Congress reminds me of the old adage "the dog that bites the hand that feeds it"
The top 10 of 1% still has no respect for those who have given them their wealth, the working man and woman. We mean nothing to them as their dollars continually roll in hand over fist.

Are we surprised?

You make a good point. But I am afraid it won't matter. The democrats in charge of congress are going to try to make an issue out of every time Bush tries to take a pee until their term is up.

In my biased opinion if you arent able to do the job, your employer doesnt like you, your dog died etc....Would you want to stay at a job or workplace that didnt want you?? This only boils down to money and power. Congress wont protect our right to bear arms. {This is written in that oft ignored document called the Constitution of the United States} so it is beyond me why anyone thinks minor rights {like the pursuit of happiness} make any difference to most of the politicians.

the democrap congress is making an issue of this firing for political reasons. They swept under the carpet the fact thaT "Slick Willy" Clinton ( friend of the working girl, like Monica Lewinsky) fired 93 federal attorneys when he took office. This has been going on since we had two political parties in this country.
