Partisan Politics is destroying the country. In my opinion, it will take another major attack from terrorists utilizing WMD technology and the ongoing threat of repeated attacks, to stop the partisan politics BS. Only when the politicians are in real peril will they work together to solve problems. For years they have constantly bickered and have not accomplished anything of real importance. (Except to raise their already inflated paychecks and pork-barreling bills wasting our money)
About the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution, in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior:
"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."
"The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:
1. From bondage to spiritual faith;
2. From spiritual faith to great courage;
3. From courage to liberty;
4. From liberty to abundance;
5. From abundance to complacency;
6. From complacency to apathy; (We are here!)
7. From apathy to dependence;
8. From dependence back into bondage
Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:
Population of counties won by: Gore: 127 million;
Bush: 143 million;
Square miles of land won by: Gore: 580,000; Bush:
2,427,000
States won by: Gore: 19 Bush: 29
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:
Gore: 13.2 Bush: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won was mostly the land owned by the tax-paying citizens of this great country. Gore's territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off government welfare..."
Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some 40 percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.
Pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger.

#1. The "war on terror".
If we are to believe our governments official story of 9/11 then we should have gone to Afghanistan and brought every Al Qaeda member to justice! Beginning with Usama. It has become abundantly clear that Usama is not a big priority with Mr. Bush. WHY?
If you look at the FBI's most wanted list Usama isn't even wanted for 9/11!
Look for yourself!

#2. Iraq-Had nothing to do with 9/11. So why are we there really?
Iraq never attacked the US or had any plans to threaten or attack the US.
This is the beginning of a policy of controlling and manipulating the ME.
If the US really cared about the honor of Iraq and her citizens humanities they would not have allowed nearly all of the destruction to the most important government and religious buildings and artifacts.
#3. NAFTA & the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America. Do we really want to become the North American Union?
This isn't just Clinton or Bush ...it is more a movement by Imperialists who are Empire building.
Please research this for yourself.
It needs to be addressed more publicly and more effectively by those in government who can put an end to it!

These 2 websites will give you more information about what is going on relatively silently behind American's backs!
The US has so many issues that we have not addressed effectively why would we need more on our plates with the inclusion of countries who need even more care and effort than we can give our own citizens right now!?!?!
That's just the tip of the iceberg...so to speak!

I think our lack of trust and constant criticism has been harbored by both parties, and they use it to battle back and forth between each other. This has spilled over into our everyday lives, and we seem to see the world as an evil place. Why don't we cheer up and go enjoy ourselves instead of thinking about is or can go wrong?

Why do you only ask this question of liberals? Do conservatives think America is perfect the way it is? Most of the ones I meet seem pretty angry about something.

"America" is a country -- it's not a single action or group.
Many individuals actions taken by Americans may be wrong, and many things done by our government may be wrong, but that doesn't make American as a whole right or wrong.

What is the point? I can tell by your rambling, bigoted question, that you are not interested in any real dialogue anyways.

The right Liberal answer:
America is not "wrong".
Christian theocrats in the GOP are dead wrong about how to use my tax dollars.
Consider yourself enlightened.
