I loved this film but once again, critics said how rubbish it was, it might be because im a Kevin Costner fan but i thought it showed of some real heros in this world - am i alone in thinking this?

I loved THE GUARDIAN, too, and thought it was one of the best movies of 2006. Kevin Costner was awesome in his role as the teacher/mentor and I hated to see him die but, on the other hand, I liked that his spirit is still out there saving lives.

No, you are not alone. My dad was in the Coast Guard and I was able to see first hand what those guys go through. I forgot the exact quote, but Costner said it best in the Guardian when he said that people don't respect the Coast Guard until they need them.
I also agree that Costner is always panned by critics. He has made a lot of good movies that go under the radar or are just blasted. But then again, I hate critics. If they love a movie, I hate it and vice versa.

I too thought this was an excellent film. I was glad to see real heros portrayed. I like Kevin Costner too. The critics may not like it but I can tell you that people do like this film, as I own a movie rental shop and this movie has been rented many times, and most people when they bring the movie back say how much they liked it.

I thought this was one of the best movies I have watched in a long time. It was great and I would recommend this movie to anyone! I am not a big fan of Kevin Costner but he was great in this movie! A++++

as a general rule whatever the critics say the general public will think the opposite. thats my rule of thumb. Guardian was costners best work in ages.

I enjoyed this movie and so did the general public. I'm in the film rental industry and I always ask people's opinions via yahoo answers because you get a better idea of what people will enjoy rather than listening just to the critics

I too am a Costner fan so I am biased. But they do not have many movies about the Coast Guard. So I thought it was a good movie.

Not only were they wrong I that film, which I thought was great. But the critics are usually wrong with most films I enjoy? Maybe we need to have a critic's critic???

My in laws watched it last week and they absolutely loved it! I've got it on my Netflix list to get pretty soon. I'm a Costner fan too :)

i liked the movie to i thought that it showed what the coast guard does and how dangerous it can be. i have watched lots of movies that the critics have said suck but i thought that they were great i dont even listen to them anymore everyone has their own point of view and perspective of movies. why listen to those people anyways do you let your mom or anyone tell you what to wear, etc? then why let them tell you what movies are good judge for yourself.
