What other bus companies are there beside Greyhound?

Well there are actually several depending upon where you are traveling. Most other companies are somewhat more regional in nature but a few do operate some fairly long routes. In the Midwest Megabus.com provides several low cost routes into and out of Chicago to places like Cleveland, Indianapolis ,Minneapolis Detroit and St. Louis. Jefferson Lines runs an extensive network along the I-29 & I-35 corridor to places like Kansas City, Dallas, Des Moines and Fargo ad the Twin Cities Etc. Burlington Trailways Lakefront Trailways and other members of the Trailways system have many long routes across I-80 from as far east as Buffalo/Cleveland to Denver in the west. In Texas and sourounding states Kerrville bus runs many lines.Up and down the east and west coast proper you have many options with Peter Pan covering the northeast corridor and El Paso Limosine covering the Desert Southwest and California. No. Greyhound is the only bus line that offers service to all 48 contiguous states. There are a couple regional carriers.

in certain part of the county there are independent bus lines
(like Peter Pan)
Orange Belt,
Indian trails, etc
El Paso Limousine (really a bus company)
and don't forget Megabus (which currently has several routes
from Chicago to several cities
then there are several Chinatown bus services operating as well
