Both words signifies a yearning.

You expect when you are pretty sure you are going to get what you are yearning for.

And you just hope when you're not sure that you're going to get what you are yearning for.

So don't raise your expectations, just hope for the best...

THose 2 words have been known to be interchangeable but are very different actually.

Hope is to have strong faith that either something will happen or that someone will react in the manner that you want them to.

Expect is when you have surpassed hope and you are looking for the exact reaction you want or need. You are CONFIDENT that its gonna happen and you dont have a plan B, because you have put all of your money on the outcome of the situation. When you EXPECT something from someone and they dont deliver....that's when you can get really hurt and disappointed. But its never bad to hope for the best.

Hope is something you want but with little chance of happening...
Expectations? You're quite sure it would happen.
