Connect the Flash drive to any PC with USB 2 ports. If Windows does not display a message on the system tray saying "You have connected a USB 1 device to a USB 2 port", you have a USB 2 Flash drive. Also you could go to the manufacturers website to get technical specs of your flashdrive.

The easy way is to simply look at the drive itself - look at the shape of the end that connects to the CPU. If the end of the drive that connects to the PC is a narrow, but tall, rectangle, it's USB 1.0 or 1.1. If the end that connects to the CPU is a small square, it's USB 2.0.

Somebody else suggested that you check the drive's properties in the properties window. I just tried that for a USB drive I have, and there is no property that tells what version USB it is.

Lost the box your flash drive came in? Go to the web site!

The real question is:

Does your PC support USB 2.0? If you plug your flash drive in and don't get a message saying it would work faster with USB 2.0, you have USB 2.0

Most USB devices today are designed for USB 2.0, because USB 1.0 is generally a lot slower

Connect the drive a drive box will appear in the system tray. right click on the drive icon and view properties. The list shows all connected devices so try to connect only one drive for simplicity. The list should say 1.1 or 2 and connection speed. 1.1 will be about 12 MB and 2.0 will goto way more.
