Why do some gay men, on TV and off, act that same certain way? and talk in that same really camp-ish voice? What does being a man, who's sexually attracted to the same sex, have to do with the way you act or talk?

Another thing, Why do people assume gay men are automatically the best friends, dressers, hair dressers, etc? What does sexual orientation have to do with those things?

I hear it so often, manys females I know have said to me in the past "Every girl needs a gay best friend!", "always take a gay guy shopping with you!" and "Oh, My hairdresser is gay so I know he'll do a great job".

I find it irratating, and the gay men I do know all act and talk really camp, or put "like" and "OMG" before everything like life has suddenly turned into an episode of friends, why though?

Just to get a few things straight (pun not intended!), I want to make it clear that I'm not homophobic or against gay, lesbian or bisexual people. I'm simply asking because i'm curious.

Thanks for the replies but some of you are getting the wrong idea here.

I have nothing against gay people, if you read my post above again you'll see that written clearly.

I'm asking because I'm curious, and I'm saying that i don't understand why people act, talk, or are seen as super human (relating to the women who think gay men are the best at everything), PURELY because of their sexual orientation!

I'm never did, and am not, saying that ALL gay men are the same, I'm saying some (probably should have said this in the subject too) and the majority I know and have met, all have simlar ways of talking and act in a "camp" way. Is it the media?

I know a friend of my family, he's in his late 40s and he's gay too, but he doesn't act like the rest i've known.

So really what I'm asking is, why are there *some* (here's the magic word!) gay men who feel they have to act or talk a certain way, living up to the stereotypes? (that i didn't create)

No offense taken (at least in this quarter--I see some others here are simply spoiling for a fight and see an opportunity around every corner).

Producers emphasize those stereotypical characteristics on TV because they only have 22 mins of programming per episode, not enough time to explain that a character is supposed to be gay.

One theory has to do with everyone starting out as a female embryo and then differentiating into male and female, and that some just don't shed the female characteristics as they mature. Another is that homosexuality is an immature form of love, characterized by the fact that all children are naturally homosexual, preferring to play with others of their own sex until puberty or later, and that some just never mature beyond that stage of social development (which has other implications which I don't dare mention without inviting the wrath of all). All of which leads some (not even most) to "girlish" behavior or a childish "lisp." Just theories, with extremely limited application and doesn't explain lesbian "behavior."

Be aware that you are only observing the noticeable exceptions. Most gays are indistinguishable from anyone else.

I don't know. There's a definite difference even when its subtle and not affected. My theory is that gayness is part of a whole spectrum of behaviors that may be the result of early hormonal influence, whatever. This would also go some way toward explaining straight men who seem gay, but have never desired to sleep with other men.

Lesbians seem to have definite characteristics too. I would swear that there is a lesbian voice, and I've never been wrong in identifying it, even if the woman is conventionally feminine to all appearances.

Caution is warranted though. As one of my gay male friends says, "Gay people are obvious. Unless they're not."

nicely you acquire to realize maximum gay men while they're youthful would desire to conceal thier sexual orientation. while they do finally get to tutor how they're they pass slightly overboard. sort of like somebody on a weight loss application. while they arrive off of it they eat like a pig. it incredibly is from the shortcoming of having what they crave. interior the case of a gay guy that is freedom. as quickly as we come out we would desire to scream and yell who we are. we would desire to sell it. it incredibly is a organic progression. Now maximum that act so flamboyant do finally cool down as they advance older and mature. They comprehend they did no longer would desire to act this thank you to be observed. There are additionally some that never act like this nor ever might. final those people you're questioning approximately are persons. If that's what they chosen to positioned on or act, then enable them to and settle for them. We gay men would desire to place up with the directly men who think of that is exciting to positioned on marvelous and shipment coloured clothing, run around a super course and hit a small ball. that is call golfing. i will assure you maximum golfers have not have been given any style experience. Do you pay attention us complaining approximately them? permit all and sundry show thier determination. enable them to be loose and settle for them.

Obviously you need to seek out other friends. The gay men I know don't act like this. However gay men do make really great best friends because you can tell them anything and they won't stab you in the back.

Why do you act a certain way? That's like asking why red is red or blue is blue! People who are gay are still human beings the same as you and I. They just happen to love someone that is the same sex as they are. Very simple concept really.

You are asking because you ARE homophobic, judgmental and do not understand what it really is about.

These men where born with too much Female Hormones. Their abilities to function like men are hard for them...
The same goes for the females some are born with more male hormones then their bodies require.
My mother has a mustached [ the doctor put her on hormones] and after 6 months she didn't have it any more but had to continue with the pills the rest of her life. Some men never have hair under their arms, on chest, or any where on their body's same reason..

Hopes this helps some

First off, I am gay, and I dont act like that. But thats not what you're asking. It it very easy to be insecure about yourself if you're gay, consequently I think 'some' gay people act like that simply because their insecurities. Is this not obvious? Maybe I am wrong, maybe 'some' gay people just can't help acting like that, but I am not one of them.
