So, I'm interested in .hack, but there are so many different series! o.O Could anyone tell me where to begin? Do the series have a chronological order or not? If not, which series is your favorite? Any info/recomendations would be brilliant. :) Thankyou!

It is best to start with the game .hack// infection. You can actually start with any of the original .hack// video games (infection, mutation, outbreak and quarentine in that order) because you unlock the videos from the previous volumes in later volumes as you beat the game. I started on volume 3 (outbreak) and know what happened in volume 1 as if I played the game. It misses the minor things, but gets a majority of the important stuff.
If you just want to get started, and you don't really care where, I would recommend .hack//gu volume 1: Rebirth. It is the newest game and has a new story arc. Some of the characters take their base from the original series, so you would miss a bit, but it is a extremely good game.

The best thing to do is to get the game. .Hack infection/ it comes with the first episode of the anime
