I too wouldn't dream of going alone to a pub, how about meeting new people at work until you settle in a bit? The people are pretty friendly around there so don't worry.

The best way to meet people is through work. Hopefully there will be some popel your age and you can initally start to socialise with them then branch out. Also joining a gym is a good way to make friends so are any other clubs in the area too. Try chatting to people on myspace too. You can talk to people in your local area. Good luck with the move!

Try joining some evening classes of the things you like doing or look in the local paper for things that are going on in the area and go along to some of them.
may be get a part time job in the community with people of your own age.
serve the net for the area and see if there are any meeting clubs or social clubs that you could go to.

A pub would be your best bet! Sorry i know that wont help lol. You will make new friends in your new career choice, be yourself or try... Hmmm.... oohh I dont know :-/ Maybe... Cinema, dancing, cafe, join a local fitness centre, or a social group or something?

Just be yourself. Go places you enjoy. Be social and introduce yourself to people. Just don't get to close to people at work because that could be a disaster.

There are probably going to be a lot of people there that would be good for friends. Just be open to people, and be kind, and yourself, and friends will "naturally" come. It takes time though.
