People are becoming dependent on the use of communication via the internet. This is reducing the amount of time that people spend having face to face conversations. In younger children this is more of an issue because they are learning to communicate via the internet which isnt preparing them for the world of work. It is causing people to loose valuable communication skills.

with the growing popularity of computer communication, the interpersonal skills of people are receding. The more that people talk on the computer, the less they want to talk in person. If you cannot hold your own in a one on one conversation or over the phone, how could you possibly be succesful in life.

Also, when comunicating via the computer, things get lost in translation. You could say something like "you jerk" to someone on AIM meaning it sarcastically, and the person may take it literally. So you have to be careful on not only what you say, but how you say it.

English skills are diminished. people become enamored with using Internet lingo instead of typing out real words.

social skills are diminished. talking to someone online is different than talking to them in person. Words on a screen are cold and indifferent. Speaking to a person in the flesh allows you to see their facial expressions, hear voice inflection, interpret their body language, and carry on a more meaningful conversation that has more substance.
