it depends on what car you have got if its a bmw or certain vw then no but on fords and vauxhalls you do.

Yes, most handles are fixed from the inside to help stop thieves etc, so you will need to take off the door panel but be very careful there are usually 1 or 2 hidden screws so ask a garage or some one who knows before you start, or get a manual (Haynes for example )

The real question in my opinion is how soon a major mechanical repair will occur or is due. You don't want to worry about details if your engine or transmission fails. So you might want to shift your emphasis to doing without the car altogether or if you have a good job, planning for a new used car purchase. The best solution is not needing to drive a car daily to your job and living within walking or bus/train commuting distance. That will save you all the costs of auto ownership and give you a chance to relax.

depends on the car ,try and get hold of a haynes manual it should tell you in there .you may be able to get one from your local library if your uk .
