looks to me like a...... Indian Pith Helmet Hat.

It is called a "Pith Helmut" so called because they were oftem made of the pith of the sola plant in India.

The standard joke as to the origin of the name is that it was designed so that when walking in the jungle, the monkeys couldn't pith on your head.
