I have a roof with a low grade and had trouble this years with ice dams which then caused leaks into the house.

you an order a heater system for the roof edge and turn that on or seal the roof with fibered roof coating or try this go and buy a hundred bags of ceullose insulation and get the free spayer and spray the cellulose into the attic or crawl space now keep the reciept and get a tax break from the government and also the heat kept in the house isnt melting the snow to form ice anymore they showed this on the new this olde house hour or goto the home depot and buy pink or good roll insulation and a vapor barrier and place that in ,its more but a good tax deduction for the first three years you own a home any energy saving materials and labor are a tax writeoff ,check witht the IRS online or the PHONE info, or go to the office,,,, and discuss your roof with the depott guys at the contractors desk take a few fotos good luck an olde roof guy and painter

the warmth escaping from the attic and soffits is what's inflicting the ice-dams. acceptable insulation won't in basic terms end the ice-dams yet shop you funds on heating. The abode windows wont remedy that concern--yet while yours are previous and drafty----you would be extra soft and shop on heating and cooling in case you replace them with precise -high quality--power-famous individual gadgets.

if it allready leaks it is time to replace it anyway and when you do make sure that GRACE ICE AND WATER SHIELD is used on the last 6 feet of your roof closest to your eve! next fall before the snow flies again install the heated cord one of the others suggested it works great ! if it fails or you have a power outage and it builds up again the ice and water shield will be there to protect it from leaking again!

heat cable , comes on automatically , not hard to install, not hard on the electric bill
