My favorite virus scanner is Avast Home Edition, which is free for noncommercial use. Get it at:

www.avast.com

Lots of people also like AVG.

To prevent spyware, try Javacool Spyware Blaster. Get it ONLY from

www.javacoolsoftware.com OR
www.filehippo.com

Beware of other programs with similar names. Especially do NOT go to spywareblaster.com. It is not the same program.

For getting rid of temp files, cookies, and other assorted garbage. and for keeping your registry clean, the best I have found is CCleaner. Get it free at:

www.ccleaner.com OR
www.filehippo.com

Filehippo is a great one-stop shopping center for lots of good freeware.

I use Avast antivirus. It is free and works good too.
as tempting as it may be never have more than 1 antivirus program at one time though.

AVG anti-virus is free and better than Norton. (Norton is a memory hog). AVG Free is the best anti-virus out right now, another good one is Avast, but I like AVG better.
