In iTunes, you should see your iPod on the left side under Devices when it is connected. Click on that, and it should take you to the Summary tab that shows the iPod's info. In the section labeled Version, there is a button that says Restore. Click that and it will restore your iPod to factory settings which will also remove the songs from your iPod. Once it is finished restoring, you can disconnect it.

If re-setting the iPod through iTunes did not work, try resetting it through Windows: go into My Computer, and click on the Removable Drive that represents your iPod. Right click the icon for your iPod, and then click Format... The Format window should pop right up and you can then re-format and erase *everything*. You may need to re-install a lot of stuff, maybe even the entire iPod OS.
As a last resort, try the Genius Bar at your local Mac store.

iTunes has this feature in its software. After you connect your iPod nano, go to iTunes and in the preferences of your ipod, there is a selection to erase everything on your ipod and return functionality to default preferences. Good luck!

Go to the "Devices" on the Itunes. Then click "Reset". Wait...don't unplug your ipod when it does this. Wait 15 seconds, for your ipod to restore and turn on again. Then unplug it. There should be no songs on it again.
