All of a sudden it will lock up. If there is music playing, it will sound like a CD skipping, repeating every half second or so. The mouse is frozen, Ctrl, Alt, Del doesn't work. I have to hold down the power button and reboot. Sometimes it does it during boot up. It only started happening since I moved to my new apartment. I have it plugged into a surge protector and everything. It seems like it only happens when I try to get my WLAN to work, which is not working properly. One time, I touched it and I got a shock, and it happened right away. I have rugs in my new apartment, but shouldn't the surge protector prevent that? let me know what you think.

Sounds like you are either having memory problems ( Windows media player can hog memory, especially if you are using plugins) Or you are having a hardware conflict. I think its memory though.

No, the Surge Protector won't your PC in this case, because you touched the PC directly.

The Surge Suppressor only protects your PC from surges coming from the wall plug.

Take it in for service.
