The modem router is for an ADSL connection. It needs ethernet ports to connect to xbox live. It needs to be fast enough for xbox live and must be able to give wireless internet access to a laptop. It needs to be under £70. Does anyone have any suggestions?

This shouldn't be a problem. Routers (Ethernet routers - which are the most common and the type that you need) have standard speeds set by international Ethernet standards (IEEE 802.3) and so will all run at specific speeds, either 'Ethernet' (10Mbits per second - *very* outdated and you can't buy these in the shops), 'fast Ethernet' (100MBits per second, by far the most common) or 'gigabit Ethernet' (1000Mbits/1Gbit per second - pretty fancy).

You can get a gigabit router if you want, but unless your internet connection speed is greater than 100Mbps then it won't help you.

So fast ethernet routers (also referred to as 10/100 Mbps) are cheap, and very common. My favourite website for computer hardware is www.ebuyer.co.uk. Check out:

ADSL router start at about £20. This one should do you fine:

But if you want to spend lots of money on a brand name, this one might be better:

Hope that helps.

Addendum:

Sorry, only just saw that you specified wireless. In that case, you want to be looking here:

The best brand names in this area are Linksys and Netgear: I use this one myself and it's awesome:

If you are looking at paying £70 then buy the best. Get a netgear. You want either the DG834G (54mbps) or the DG834GT (125mbps).

About a year ago I decided to get a router so my son and I could play on teamxlink together with TWO xbox's. Not knowing what to buy I went on one of the review sites, as below and the netgear came out one of the best at 9.8 out of 10. This was pretty good as I was going to buy a belkin which only rated at 5. Am not sure but think the bt voyager is made by belkin.

We run 1 360 wired, 1 360 wireless and 1 laptop all at the same time with no lag.

If you are still on the old xbox check out www.teamxlink.co.uk It's great for playing halo 2 online and is totally free. All you need to do is go on their webiste, download their KAI programme and you will be playing in no time. Its better than xbc.

Hope the above helps

Get a BT voyager 2091. It retails around £25 and works really well.
