If that's your homework, your teacher needs to go back to school. Madison did write some of the Federalist papers (on why we should adopt the Constitution), but he was absolutely not a member of the Federalist party. Jefferson was the founder of the Democrat-Republican party, which was the Federalist's opponent in the early days of the Nation.

The Federalist party no longer existed by the time Lincoln was born, let alone before he came to prominence.

Washington and Adams were Federalists, as were Alexander Hamilton and John Marshall.

James Madison was a Federalist and was a member of the Federalist Party.

Jefferson was a strong supporter of states rights, and was not a Federalist.

Lincoln was thew first President elected as a Republican.

Of the three choices, Madison was one of the authors of the Federalist papers , but none were members of the Federalist Party.

Madison did contribute to the Federalist Papers (though a majority of them were written by Alexander Hamilton). He wasnt, however, really a member of the Federalist party.

This question is misleading.
