I put a couple of fabric softener sheets in my suitcase to help with the musty odor. Now it has an overwhelming perfume scent that makes me sneeze. I'm trying baking soda, but the scent still lingers. How long does it take for baking soda to totally neutralize it? I have an upcoming trip and don't want to smell like that. Any other tips for neutralizing would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If you live in a warm area - your best bet for getting the smell out with out adding to it by spray other things on it, is to open it up and put it out in the sun. If you can do this for a couple of days it will work wonderfully. The sun does amazing things to remove odors.

Also, next time instead of putting fabric sheets in it and then storing it, mix fabric softener with water a spray it in your suitcase the day before you want to pack. You can make the spray as strong as you like. I use it all over my house to help keep things fresh and it works better (and is cheaper) than any other products.

I hope this helps!
