speak to a garage on where your planning to get the work done but putting a bigger engine in you will have to tell dvla and have an examiner out to change the taxificatoin on the car.

your in luck, mazda actually made a v6 for the 323, it was only 2.0, but its still quite lively, and have known some to push out well over 200 bhp, the engine should almost drop straight in, if you go with a massive engine you'll have to change diffs, shafts everything, why not get the 2.0 v6 and tune!

your car is worth about £50 so not worth spending on, but if you really want to why not use the V6 that mazda actually fitted to the 323!

i own a shop and if you know how to use a set of torches and a welder you can put just about anything in it,i had one that had small block Chevy engine in it,but sold it,it was a dangerous car, too much power.and not enough weight to hold it down, but anything can be done if you have the right tools to do it with, and don't forget about the money part of it,it can get expensive also, good luck i hope this helps.

the best is to have BPT8 4cyclinder 1800 16valve intercooled turbo..from mazda interplay or protege it fits nicely with no massive mods to the mounts, use back your 1.6 tranny.. save cost and got power
