For those of you know don't know, Librarything (www.librarything.com) is a site that enables you to catalogue your book collection and meet other people who share the same books (sort of like a book Myspace but not really). Was just wondering if such a site, or something somewhat similar anyway, exists for music and/or movies. Anyone know?

Purevolume.com and last.fm are both music sites that seem similar to Librarything (from your description of it). Purevolume is a site to find bands, and you can meet people over it (although it's not as easy, I don't think). Last.fm tracks the songs you've listened to on your computer and compares them to other users listening habits. When somebody from your region matches up with a lot of your music, the site lists them as one of your neighbors.

I don't know of another site like that, although I think one or two have been discussed in the LibraryThing blog in the past. There are discussion groups ON LibraryThing devoted to various aspects of music.
