You should read the manga first. Then, watch the anime. Then see the movie.

Well I think the movie series should go last since that's a hit or miss type thing since it's live action.
As for the anime and manga, really I think it's a matter of preference. Both are telling the same story, just that little details are going to be different. Start with the type you like more. If you like watching anime more, watch the anime and then supplement the manga afterwords to get a different feeling to the story, or vise versa if you like manga more.
It's not really going to change much which ever you choose first. I suggest the anime first since moving pictures is more about suspence and if you read the manga you will know most of what's happening. If you just want to know the whole general story beforehand then read the manga and enjoy seeing it acted out animated then by the movie.

I suggest this order:
Manga>Anime>Movies
The Manga will give you a base for everyhtin ghtat happens because it is so detailed. You could watch the movies before the anime, but I think the anime is a lot better than the movies (having seen the first 5 episodes of the anime and the first movie in that order). The first movie was a little boring and anti-climactic, though the ending to it lead to an awesome cliff-hanger (for anyone who knows, I'm talkinga bout the part when L walks up to Raito, eating out the potatoe chip bag ^_^). But this is just my personal opinion. Death Note is a great series, and I hope you enjoy it to the fullest extent.
