I want to pierce my labret but I cant get it done until after high school because I play the flute, and it would effect it. So since I wont be playing after HS I want to get it done then. But my question is, if I still want to play the flute later, if I take the stud out, will I be able to play? Or will the hole mess up the air flow? If any one has any experience with this please let me know!

My boyfriend has a labret piercing and he got it in July of last year. He actually plays the trumpet. After about 2 weeks it had healed up quite a bit and he had started to play again with absolutely no problems.

As for the person who said it wasn't attractive, that's so not true! I think the piercing is adorable! I myself have my tongue pierced, so we're a bunch of metal faces. If you'd like to do it after high school, I say go for it. Its your body and if you decide to have it close up, it will only be a little scar.

Also, it won't cost you a job or anything like that because you can always put a retainer in there for job interviews and when you have to work, etc. There's really no reason for you to not do it.

So there you go! Proof that your piercing will not effect your instrument playing! And if that's not enough, perhaps I should go through all the bands on my myspace page and pull out some pictures of my musician friends with labret and lip piercings who play instruments via the mouth. You'll be fine! :)

Since the labret in a piercing in soft tissure it does not leave an open hole. (Like one in the cartiladge.) You can get it now and play the flute no problem. Ant if you took the jewelry out the hole would constrict, and you would still experiance no pronblem with air flow through the hole.

If you get anything larger than a 14 gague, the hole will be pretty big, but it shouldn't mess with airflow because of the way your lip sits on the flute. Even with a 12 gague you'd probably be alright. I can't imagine you'd want a HUGE hole though. You might have to retrain yourself to play though because your whole mouth will feel different after you get the piercing - just like when you get braces or other dental work.

Any piercing should not affect your ability to play. If you keep a stud or retainer in the piercing, air should not be able to escape, especially since your lips are puckered when you blow over the hole. The healing time may factor in, since it may be a little raw, chapped, or irritated as it heals, and THAT may hamper your musical ability. I have known musicians who have played trumpets, trombones, and clarinets with labret, tongue, lip, scrumper, and even cheek piercings.

Monroe. Unless it is a hoop I believe backside lip jewelry will have to keep established, it simply turns out off if it is to the correct or left BENEATH your lip. Monroe piercings are higher to me, however it is your face, so I cannot make the resolution for you. :) I simply believe that backside lip jewelry will have to be hoops to the part, snake bites, or only a stud within the middle (I have no idea what they are all referred to as, ha ha). Monroes seem well. Monroe wins!

i saw an answer about a 14 gauge hole, most places carry a 16 gauge labret, you could do it with a 16 gauge which is only a size bigger than what they pierce ears with.

I am sure it would be okay. The hole won't be big enough to effect anything.

I dont think it would mess it up but personally I dont think you should have it done, its very unattractive and when you get older and dont want it anymore you will always have that scar.
No offense if its something you really want but its just something to think about.
