it looks like most crimes are commited by repeat offenders, right? because they were released or set free. track them?how you ask?if we could plant a gps device in theyre body, then when a crime takes place, or a poor innocent child is molested or kidnapped, we could kick up the gps criminal tracking system and locate repeat offenders dead in theyre tracks...

I agree with you completely, but unfortunately our system doesn't allow this type of "Big Brother" monitoring. This would be considered an invasion of privacy, and our system feels that after a criminal has "served their time or repaid their debt" in the form of jail time or restitution, that they should be allowed to live free, with the exceptions of owning certain weapons. The other problem is that when you do this, you are opening up flood gates of other problems, such as other people would be able to track this guy with the right equipment, or lawsuits from criminals suing the government for problems caused by infections from having this device inserted. I would love a way to track these jerks down or be able to keep them away from areas that they know not to be at, but right now, the government is doing the best it can.

No, most (statistically) are not committed by repeat offenders, but yes there are a large number of repeat offenders.

As far as the GPS suggestion -- many people were taking bets how long until someone tried to do this. Like what the Nazis did with putting a serial number on everone they imprisoned.

It's a good idea. But, ask yourself this question....are you willing to go back to dial up speeds for your internet??

GPS tracking works by updating....update times are set to a specified time, many companies use 30 minutes, to keep the network load down.

What will be the refresh rate for the tracking device and supporting software? How many will there be? Will we build and launch a support satellite just for these offenders? What kind of load will the GPS put on current satellites used for commercial and military purposes?

Or we could just give the death penalty to everyone. No repeat offenders, and population control, we all win.
