Why does somany people make other people lower their self-esteem?

Bullying and cowardice.

So they can up their's. I've got a friend who doesn't have much of a life and maybe because of jealousy they break other people down to bring them up.
Or they're just really insecure and want to feel better.

Because it makes them feel powerful to put others down. It makes them feel superior. It also hides their own weaknesses.

Because they think that they are superb and more smart than others.
