I know there was a man from Philly that grew up in the projects and family was killed by gang members, etc.
he was the only one in his family to graduate high school/college, he came in to speak to the 6-8th graders, but, seems they've forgotten already, maybe have an ex-con come in and tell them what happens when you make poor choices?

I think that is an excellent idea. Students learn more from hearing about a person's bad life experiences rather than being lectured by perfect parents, perfect teachers, etc. Students can relate better to someone who has been in a bad situation and knows about it rather than someone who is just telling them not to make bad choices and decision without any experience.

There are many groups who do this thing do check into it
remember it only takes one for this program to be worth while and we may never see it work since they do take things with them down the road
Also many kids do what their peers do so as not to be labelled freak or whatever

I'm not sure if they'll let an ex-con onto school grounds. Depends on what he did. It definitely couldn't hurt to ask though.
