The word is impedence. You should look at what speaker output(s) the head offers. Most of the newer heads will have often 4 ~ 5 different outputs depending on the impedence of the cab(s). I own a Laney GH50L head. It has 5 outputs for many different combos for cabs I can use. Granted, I'm using with one 2x12 cab at 8ohm, but if I wanted to, I could run two 4x12s, 'cause the head offers that option.

Watts doesn't determine if an amp is good or not. It basically tells you how loud the amp is in a simple sense. Generally speaking 50w tube amp is loud enough for smaller shows, house parties, and 100w for a bigger venues, or if you have the cash.
