Contact the taxing authority. You probably won't qualify for exempt status but they need to update the record to note the destruction of the improvements on the land and adjust the FMV and taxable values. That should result in a reduction in the property taxes.

yes you can plead but only with respect to improvement on the property but still you have to pay for the land tax., the first thing that you should do is to report it to the assessors office concerned for them to conduct an ocular inspection and make a necessary notice of assessment report directing the treasurer's office that improvement(s) is no longer subject for taxation and then after request the assessors office for the cancellation of tax declaration on improvement.
