Go a counter Chanel, Dior, Lancome or wich ever have you make up done for free ask the nice lady to show you how to put your fundation, she probably will use a brush and advise you to do the same. I myself use Dior's Airbrush foundation wich you just spray on your face and your flawless it is very easy. but when you see a picture or watch a movie they usually done some visual effect and some retouch.

Makeup artists use small hand-held makeup sponges to apply foundation. You can buy them at drugstores.

Go and have a session at the MAC counter in your local department store - they are usually helpful and will show you how to apply the products (to your liking!)
