If you look at the history of human life expectancy, it does much more good, physically. And intellectually, think of guttenberg's printing press, which has significantly increased world literacy. Environmentally, its hurt us.

What you have to ask yourself is if the harm is too much to deal with, then you will need to think about whether living without science is more good than bad. I think the harm it does cause is justified by the good it creates.

If you think flush toilets, modern medicine and transportation and communications are better than living in caves you probably have a good arguement in favor of it.
