I was put on my parents cell plan just over a year ago (Jan. '06) and my phone's charging piece came out making it difficult to charge it completly. How long do you have to wait upgrade your phone, i heard it's every 2 years. I don't want to pay retail price ($200+) for a phone. How can i pay less, does the price go down the longer you have your plan?

I belive the only way to upgrade phones is to take out a new two year contract. Talk to your parents about the possibility of doing this.
Or you could go on ebay and buy an unlocked GSM phone. Another way is to buy one of cingular's Go phones and install your SIM into that phone.

You have to wait 2 years to be eligible for an upgrade, however they may be able to make an exception. You can sign a new 2 year agreement and get the 1-year discounted price on a phone (as opposed to the full 2-year discount you'd receive by upgrading after your contract is up). It may not be the full discount but it may help. You will have to go to a Cingular store to see if you can do this.

Another option you have, is if you are within the first year of your contract since you bought the phone you may be able to exchange it via warranty exchange. They send you a new phone and you send back the old one.

Lastly, you can purchase an unlocked phone for cheap (eBay, ect) and simply call Customer Service to have them load it with the MEdia net settings and MMS settings you will need.

Upgrade Your Phone
Check to see if you're eligible for an upgrade by logging in to My Account.

If you're eligible, there will be a link in the Eligibility column that you can click on. If there is no link, you are currently not eligible to upgrade online.
Select the link in the Eligibility column for the wireless number you would like to upgrade.
Select a new phone and rate plan for your current wireless number.
Add your favorite features and accessories.
Complete checkout.
