FYROM has been a name of (Makedonija) for about 15 years and it was a setelment with Greece untill they both countries find a compromise which they didn't till now.
Macedonians are fighting for their name MACEDONIA ... its a bit inconvinient to change the name of a teritory , where its nation know their name all their lives as Macedonia , Macedonian language , Macedonian culture ...!!
Imagine it called , FYROM language , FYROM cultura, nation...
There is no country in the world where its name is related to a former country which doesn't exist anymore ! (fyrom= former yugoslav republic of Macedonia)
There was a world agreement in the first ninties where coutries who took teritories of Macedonia have to get the teritory back if someday there will be a coutry made or the nation will ask for its teritory , this agreement does scare Greece , because , almost half of greece is a teritory of Macedonia ...
coutries who made an agreement to take teritories were (Serbia, Bulgaria, Albania, and Greece)
Macedonia nowadays is not asking to acomplish that agreement , because then a WAR will start as beleived ... but they are atleast asking to have the name they always had !
Imagine Germany to be called Berlin, Greece to be called Athens, France to be called Paris ... (stupid) ... Greeks ask Macedonia to be called (Skopje- the capital of Macedonia)
Macedonians solution to that issue is that all the world to recognize Macedonia as its constitutional name "MACEDONIA" and to have a different name only with Greece , as north Macedonia (but greeks are not willing to let it go )
P.S
Macedonia is recognized by its constitutional name with many major coutries as .
USA , CHINA , RUSSIA, TURKEY ...
Its time Greece to make its step and let the history back a little and live peacfuly with its naighbours ever after...

Internationally, Makedonija is recognized and accepted as FYROM (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia), due to the confusion with the region in Greece which is also called Macedonia. Actually, I know that Greeks had some issues about Makedonija (I mean FYROM) being internationally accepted solely as Makedonija, so they found compromise in recognizing Makedonija as a former Yugoslav Republic. Hope this helps!

The name FYROM had originally been conceived as a modus vivendi - a compromise acceptable to both Athens & Skopje until a permanent solution could be agreed upon.
Since a real solution has not yet been reached, FYROM is preferrable - but on the understanding that it's nothing more than a provisional name.

Both are nice. It's too hard to decide. FYROM will fit better on the tiny little globes.

Macedonia is more nationalistic and gives you your own identity without the old Yugoslavia title.
Be proud of Makedonija!
