Minnesota Wild --Xcel Energy Center
It has been voted the best arena is all of sports on a couple occasions by ESPN, as well as the best all around stadium for concerts/other things. Not a bad seat in the house and the accoustics are great. Not to mention the Wild play there.

The Pens, just because the Roof of the Mellon Arena can open. Ever watch "Sudden Death"? Well the movie was filmed in Pittsburgh because the roof could be opened. I'm gonna miss that when they move. Mind you they NEED the new arena, but would have been cool if they could have had a roof that opens in the new one. Sure some will argue that it is pointless, but it is cool. Doesn't matter if they never open it, and haven't probably since that movie was filmed, just that it could was what mattered. After that yeah the history of MSG, although not saying the Rangers part was that great so maybe it doesn't totally count, makes it probably the best. Now if you go by history of the Arena for hockey then "the Joe" in Detroit is probably the best.

The San Jose Arena in San Jose. It's called HP Pavilion, but SJ Arena is more classy than that corporate B.S. The Shark Tank is an amazing, and simple place to enjoy a hockey game. Lots of knowledgeable fans and the thing that irritates me are the bandwagon fans who hog the playoff tickets from all the "real" fans.
The Joe in Detroit is just classic. Just go to a Wings game and you'll see what makes those Detroiters tick.

The Columbus Blue Jackets arena, Nationwide Arena, was voted best arena experience last year. I like it because it's big, you can see well from almost all the seats, it's new, it's really clean. I was at Joe Louis Arena last year for the CCHA tournament and it's great for the history, but it's pretty old and dirty. And the seats were kinda uncomfortable. I haven't been to any other NHL arenas. But CBJ's arena was really nice.

that would depend on how you define best.
My favorite is of course the Mellon Arena, the Pens have been there for their entire history, plus it has an opening roof and was the location for the movie Sudden Death.
I've been going to stuff there since I was born. It may be old, but its home. I'll miss it when I tear it down once the new arena is finished (allegedly it will be ready for the 2009-10 season)

I am not sure what you mean by best, but I have been to a few buildings in the nhl, florida, msg (NY), joe Louis (det), forum (mtl), AAC (dallas) and both Toronto buildings.
I have to say the new Air Canada Centre in Toronto is probably the best building in terms of the way it functions. The bottom bowl portion is well set-up with a good vision of the ice. Maple Leaf Gardens, was a dump, but it had an amazing view of the action (at least in my seats).

The fans voted Nationwide Arena the best fan experience in PROFESSIONAL SPORTS a couple years ago. Also, for those of you who enjoy Melon Arena's opening roof, I'd like to remind you that it's been broken for quite awhile...
