Just deleted the most up-to-date version of Adobe. PC performance is now much faster. No idea why Adobe was causing other windows to operate much more slowly. Any clues?

Older PC?

Adobe uses lots of memory and you probably need more RAM (<512MB) on XP 1GB on Vista AND a faster CPU.

If you had Adobe reader, it is monstrously big and slow, and yes, it would slow your computer down regardless of its age. I have XP and 512 Mb RAM, and when I uninstalled Adobe Reader, I noticed an immediate change in my computer. If you just need a pdf reader, I heartily recommend Foxit Reader, a small, fast utility.

And I do hope you uninstalled Adobe, not just deleted it! If you just deleted some files, you didn't remove the program from your hard drive. Look in the Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel and see if it's still there. If it is, you will have to reinstall it in order to uninstall it. You can only remove it using Add/Remove Programs.
