I used to smoke, but I quit almost 7 years ago. Now I can't stand the smell and I refuse to be around second-hand smoke. Thank God I live in a place that bans smoking in restaurants and other public places. I feel like a snob now though! The kind of person who used to annoy me when I did smoke! ;)

I know what you mean about how much smoking makes YOU stink! It's so obvious to me when I'm near someone who smokes. I used to think I was hiding it from people, but now I think they must have known...my hair, my clothes had to have reeked of smoke...

999 times out of 1,000 I can't stand the smell (that other time I think it's not so bad....)
Reform smokers do tend to be the worst -- reformed anything, actually. It's usually reformed smokers who are the biggest second-hand smoke Nazis! I'm terrible now -- an ex-smoker and a mom of two toddlers....I get annoyed when I'm walking the kids in their stroller and we have to pass someone on the street who's smoking!
What is really amazing to me, however, is how MUCH it stinks. I mean, on hair, clothes....as a smoker you never realize how much you reek. It's absolutely comical to think back on any time when you might have wanted to hide your smoking from someone...anyone....and actually believed you were. Ha!
Congrats on the quitting! I stopped about 6 years ago. Something like that. (It's amazing to me but I actually don't remember when. 5,6, or 7....)

I used to smoke and I still like the smell. I was never a heavy smoker though and still very occasionally have a cigarette when I'm drunk (about 3 or 4 times a year). Maybe you just smoked so much you reached your limit and made yourself sick with it! I think it's great that you do hate it as it will help you not to start again. Well done for quitting by the way.

Don't be so self righteous! All the things you say you hate, you were. You made a choice to smoke and people tolerated you. Then you made a choice to stop, but you think because you don't smoke now, that everyone who does is wrong. How about live and let live. I am not a slave to cigarettes, I enjoy smoking!!!!! I have no doubt I could quit, if I wanted to. Bottom line I don't want to. I am a courteous smoker and never smoke in enclosed spaces with non smokers. Don't even smoke in my own house. So why is it anyone elses business. I don't eat fat, so should I assume all fat people are wrong and I am right????? Everyone has their own prejudices but doesn't give us the right to judge others. Get over yourself and get on with life. Leave the smokers alone.

I am smoke free for almost 10 years.
When I'm in the company of smokers, I get up-wind of them so it goes right in my face. I adore the smell of cigarette smoke.

I quit smoking 10 weeks ago and I can smell smoke from a mile away but, since I enjoyed smoking so much I still kind of like the scent strange huh? I can't wait until I reach the point you are at and congrats on your quit!

I smoked for over 20 years and now I'm free! And the smell is horrible, but I'm not a snob about it because I understand what it's like to be on the other side of the fence. Very very difficult addiction to conquer, congrats!

I'm the same way. I'm like the worst non-smoker around. I don't even like to walk past people smoking outside of stores and places like that. It really annoys me now and I can't believe I ever smoked. It's so disgusting.

I'm with you! I used to smoke (for 10 years), but now that I don't, I have absolutely no tolerance for it. It's amazing how you can't smell it when you are a smoker - it's NASTY!

Quit over 15 years ago. Husband still smokes, although not in the house. But when it is humid outside, he brings in the stench! I get very sick when I smell it, sinuses react and I'm nauseous, sometimes am in bed gagging for a day or more.
