I live in Ohio. I am wanting to plant some flowers this year with my 6 year old daughter. I need something that is hearty. (I am terrible with flowers) I will be planting outdoors in a flower garden that already has mulch. (we live in an apartment complex) Any help would be appreciated. I am hoping to teach my daughter better gardeining skills than I have. LOL

I've had a lot of luck with begonias. I start in May and they last til the first frost. I trim them back once and while so they stay nice. They don't need much care--just watering.

Marigolds are an easy one to start with they come in all colors of yellow and brown and some red highlights. They will grow in full sun just water once in awhile, from the bottom and take scissors and cut off wilted blossoms to keep them blooming.

Try the Wave Petunias they grow so fast and they spread out and are beautiful all summer long in your area!

marigolds are great....also try vinca (aka periwinkle), both are heat tolerant and will flower all summer...the marigold you should remove spent blooms, but it's a good lesson for your daughter. good luck
