It makes a whirring / vibration noise when tilted. Is it going bad? Thanks.

Probably, back up your personal NOW!!!

Take it back to the store or return to the Manufacturer ASAP.

It is dying.

It depends on what kind of noise you are hearing. Most notebooks have a sensor built in to park the hard disk when it's tilted abruptly.

It could just be loose. My laptop (it's a Compaq) has a part that comes off and I can pull the hard drive out and put it back in. It may just need some adjusting. And especially if it only does it when you move it a certain way it could just be loose.
