NATIONAL DEFENSE!
Every manufacturer was making military equipment.
Rationing of gasoline, leather shoes, sugar, meat, butter.
Gas? 5 gallon per week. Shoes? 2 pair a year. Butter? 1/4 pound per week, per family. Meat? A few pounds per week, per person.
Bananas, candy, chewing gum were in short supply.
Any vocalizing of sympathy for the enemy was subject to charges of treason.
All, ALL international mail was censored. My family had received mail with holes in it, as many others did.
