The Mayans say we could expect a little tumble of the earth's crust and maybe some soggy conditions along the coast lines, but their real fear is a nuclear showdown. Here is a summary of the Mayans and their predictions for the time.
The Mayan Indians regard their beliefs as both a science and a religion. Their discoveries are not done in a lab but rather by tapping into the cosmos via the mind. Through the extensive use of meditation, they are able to discover and track planetary movements as well as space anomalies such as black holes. They used this information to construct a calendar so accurate that no present day calendar can rival its accuracy. They also use this information to predict future events.
According to some Mayans, this date marks the end of the long count of their calendar; Set to end on a winter solstice (12-21-12). On this date, our Solar system will be center aligned , in the Milky Way, ninety degrees relative to the black hole, at its center. Our sun will be centered in a position called "The Tree of Life", as it does every 25,800 years. We will have exited the forth dimension and entered the fifth dimension. This date also marks the end of the Mayan "Great Cycle" of the long count, which is equivalent to 5125 years. We exit the age of Pisces and enter the age of Aquarius.
In this position, unusually violent sun spot activity will cause a pole shift. Earthquakes, tsunamis, and floods will run ramped. Significant loss of life will occur. Earths magnetic field will temporarily collapse. Humans will be exposed to a cosmic energy that will facilitate enlightenment. In this state of higher consciousness, we will recognize that all matter, plant, animal, mineral are bound as one. This realization will mark the end of wars for a time. People will be able to connect to the essence of god (vibrating energy) like only the most enlightened can.
The date marks a goal to be reached. Evil forces will make every effort to keep humanity from reaching the date. These evil forces are those entrenched in the third dimension, in the Material world. They have no desire to leave this age and wish to continue exploiting and endangering all life for material gain.
Wars just prior to this date could be most devastating, with a loss of as much as 2/3 of our population anticipated. The resulting man made environmental damage could make life inhospitable for those who survive.
Humans have freewill, Man's future is not set yet, nor predictable:

i actually don't think in any of this. I asked my sister why all human beings became making a brilliant deal approximately 2012 and she or he stated it became the 12 months the international ended. In my opnion, the probabilities are high 10/one hundred purely by way of fact i do no longer understand what to believe. even with the undeniable fact that it sounds fake by way of fact there is such fairly some distinctive predictions. Mass destruction, Yellow Stone exploding,ect...

Nothing. There's an old Mayan calendar that ends in that year and another era was supposed to begin for them, but they had such a lousy view of the future that they went extinct. Nothing was ever predicted to happen. I have a calendar I got at Barnes & Noble that runs out in Feb 2008 and I don't think that means the world will end then.

In answer to your question I have to base my answer on traditional native American-mesoamerican views that have been passed down to me. The Mayan culture, as with most indigenous people of the Americas held to the belief that the world as we know it will never end. No big fiery explosions, no freeze overs, no last day on earth. They believed that at crucial points in time that a change would occur, the earth would enter another age, or another period of living, and the last period that may or may not begin in 2012 according to the Mayan Calender would be an age of perfection or an Eden age to borrow a biblical term. That life would go on same as always but with modifications for the better. Of course I dint subscribe to my traditional Native American views, I am a Christian so I see things very differently. But at least the Mayans were hopeful that their ways would continue.
If you would like to discuss this further or would like to discuss my personal views of things give me a shout at nickboy19@yahoo.com and we can talk.

The Mayan Calendar will end. The mayans believed it would mark the beginning of a new age of man, but as to what that means, there are lots of interperetations from peace and harmony, to doom and annhilation.

The Mayan calendar ends that year. Mayan prophesy suggests the world ends in fire.
Looking around me I'd say they may just be right...
Who can be sure?
Not long to wait to find out I suppose.

I don't know what "prophetsized" means.
It is prophesied that, in 2012, the human race will find some other silly thing to worry about.
