It is still pretty chilly outside, but we have a beautiful lake I want to take him too. We are going to build a fire, but what can we eat? and do?

Keep it as simple as possible. Get some long forks for holding wieners and pick up some wieners, buns, mustard and relish. Also pick up some marshmallows. Take a couple of blankets, one to lay on the other to cover up with.
You have what to eat and hopefully you can figure out what to do.

This isn't as hard as some people are making it. We used to live in a home with electric heat and a fireplace in the livingroom and family room. One winter the electric went out during a storm so we camped in the livingroom in front of the fireplace. We used ice cubes in the freezer, (before they could melt), to fill the cooler with and added fruit, lunch meat, hot dogs, fresh veggies or anything we could cut up or consume as is. Lit the fireplace and cooked hot dogs, jiffy pop in tins, made s'mores, stuck some beer and wine out the front door in the snow bank to chill, had some crackers and cheese with our hot dogs, fresh veggies and fruit, wine and beer. Snuggled under some blankets and had the time of our lives. It was disappointing when the electric came back on after two days. Be adaptable, take whatever sounds good that you can cook on a campfire easily, or not so easily if you are a whiz at being spontaneous and clever, take a candle in a glass container to set the mood, even during the day, and have fun. Above all else, let your imaginations run wild and don't forget a manual can opener. !!!

With a fire, I'd say go with traditional cooked on the fire meals.

Simple: Hot dogs, chips, and marshmallows/smores.

Not so simple: Tin foil dinner, baked potatoes, and an dutch oven upside down cake.

And I agree with above. Any kind of warm drink that can warm your fingers while you're cooking.

Do - frisbee, hike, snuggle in a blanket and enjoy the view/air. I personally like to just walk/hike and talk with my husband when we go into the mountains for a picnic.

Have fun!

Why don't you make his favorite meals while watching his favorite movie or talking about his favorite subject (you or himself; depending on what type of guy he is...LOL!) Or listening to his favorite musical cd...all provided that it fits the mood. How about going on the lake on a boat on a perfect evening and having a picnic dinner and maybe a little dancing. Well, I hope it goes well. Best wishes and take care.

Wine, cheese and cracker, grapes, sausage. Go for the good finger good and a wine with a bit of fruitness in its bouquet such as a Reisling or a Piesporter.

Fresh fuit
Smores (marshmallows, hershey chocolate bar honey crackers)

PS/ Have the kabobs pre-made at home (or buy them made at the supermarket) and the sausages pre-boiled at home.

Take a couple blankets, one to sit on and another to stay warm. Don't take any distractions, like music...just nature and the two of you. You can take some wine, cheese, bread, salami, fruit, and some drinking water.
