It's obvious that none of the people that answered this no anything about basketball. The Lakers currently sit in a tie for the 7 spot with Denver. The Lakers schedule is much easier than either Denver or Golden State. Denver is in the midst of a 5 game road trip with Detroit, Cleveland, and Chicago on the schedule, they will be lucky to win 1 game of the 3. Golden State is 5 games back in the loss column, and with only 14 games remaining, it will next to impossible for the Lakers to not make the playoffs. Not only will they make, but they'll probably be the 6 seed, playing the Spurs in the 1st round, but that's the end of the line.

Kobe Bryant and the lakers are going strong into the playoffs and will most likely play with a full roster in the last month of the season, showing a different laker team that should be a threat to any 1, 2, 3 seed in the playoffs. Because remember no one has seen the lakers play together .. because there was so many injuries during the season. They would have at least been a number 4 or 5 seed by now. But they are most likely going to settle with the number 6 or7 seed. Meaning they will play either San Antonio or Phoneix. They are 1-1 against both of those teams, and are going to play Phoneix 2 more times and the Spurs 1 more time during the regular season. The Lakers will hold on definetly because neither the Clippers, Warriors, Kings, or Timberwolves show no consistency and will fight for their own final number 8 seed. Thus, Lakers will capture the 5, 6, or 7 seed. Most likely the 6 seed if Denver hits any bumps.

My lackluster Lakers will hold on and make it to the playoffs. But just for the record I feel trading SHAQ was the dumbest thing the Lakers organization has ever done. If Jerry West was still with the Lakers there's no way that trade would've occurred if Jerry was at the helm. Let me go on record as saying Kobe's ego was so big he exploded a dynasty. Anyway that's all water under the bridge...the Lakers will hold on and lose in the first round.
The Lakers are 2 years away from making some real noise in the NBA post-season. Andrew Bynum will be a force very soon. I only question his desire to be great, not good but great. The NBA is filled with good players who could be great if only they had a work ethic i.e. - Kwame Brown. Andrew Bynum has shown he has the potential but the next couple of years will determine the Lakers fate.

Yes, for the following reasons:
(1) The sheer will of Kobe will not allow this team to sink into obscurity and miss the playoffs. Kobe is determined to score if he has to (as evidenced by his last two winning perfomances); and, when Kobe gets that narrowed expression upon his brow... watch out!
(2) Injuries are a primary reason why the Lakers are even in the bottom of the playoff standings. Remember, this is a team who- at one point- had a record of 31-19. However, when virtually the entire Lakers front line is depleted by injuries (Odom, Walton, Radmonovic, Brown, Mihm), the Lakers eventually began to suffer. Still, the team is getting healthy now, and two intregate cogs in the Lakers puzzle (Odom and Walton) are now back and ready to finish this season strong.
(3) The challenging teams simply aren't as consistent or talented to seriously challenge the Lakers standings. In fact, I'll go out on a limb and state that the Lakers will take 6th (not 7th) seed in the West by the end of the season. Denver will have a slump while the Lakers will surge into the postseason.
(4) Finally, never doubt the legacy of the purple and gold warriors. Check out Flea's (bassist from Red Hot Chili Peppers) blog on NBA.com for Lakers inspiration.

Yes.....but Kobe's gonna have to continue to do what he's been doing. Honestly, his teammates aren't helping so he's gotta do all the scoring....literally. The Clippers and Warriors and possibly Hornets will fight for the last 2 spots, but I think the Lakers are pretty much a lock for the playoffs at this point.

Yes, not because of Kobe but because they just got their two best role players back (Lamar Odom and Luke Walton) and when these two are healthy Andrew Bynum also dominates look for them to finish in the sixth or fifth seed in the west

i honestly think that the lakers will hold on this season now that walton and odom are back in the starting line-up.
As long as they play the triangle well, and execute on both side of the court, then they'll do just fine.
