Saying it is sad is a bit of a meiosis. The very ethical basis of mankind comes into question at such a query. It may be the single-most overlooked dilemma of today's society. It is a sad day when we no longer take into account the feeling's of others.

Do they know they hurt your feelings
Did they hurt your feelings not on purpose, but because something had to be said.
Feelings are so unstable anyway...and what hurts them today, may not affect them tomorrow...and you may not know where that other person is coming from.
We need to care less about peoples feelings and MORE about doing the right thing...regardless of the other persons feelings.
