unfortunately our pet cat died, from Kidney disease due to the bad food, we tried everything and then the vet gave us the Bad news. My cat tiger was killed by special kitty foods which he loved and ate exclusively. I'm happy others were able to save their cherished pets. I join many who are mourning a family pet loss.

I don't feed my pets wet/moist food, b/c it's bad for their teeth. I have a jackrussell terrier and 2 wild cats. They all need to CHEW. Besides, the one cat thinks she's pig and eats a lot--I couldn't afford to put her on canned food. I do think it's a terrible shame that Menu Foods wasn't straightforward giving the info to the media about the recall, but made people check out the website and they only want to replace the tainted food and not pay up for the loss of the animal. The animals lost can't be replaced with money, but there is more lost than just some pet food. Pets are like a member of the family. Some people bought their pets. Mine were free--adopted strays, but still, they are loved and cherished and treated like children of the house--spoiled rotten, in other words. Menu Foods is getting a bad name quickly. I would like to find a list of foods not made by them and boycott them.

In September, my cat starting to have reoccurring crystals in her urine. She would make these horrible screeching noises from the basement, and I never associated the noises with pain until she started urinating in inappropriate areas. Her favorite food was Nutro in the packages with gravy, and I had to pull her off all cat foods because every two weeks the crystals returned.
I researched for hours on the Internet through desperation on what to do for her and finally stumbled on raw feeding. I have struggled with preparing her meals and found it to be work, BUT she's alive today because of the extra effort on my part. She loved the Nutro so much, it was horrible having to pull her off of it. I was furious knowing that kitty foods contributed to her problem and that vets offered other foods made by the same companies that caused her condition to begin with.
My heart goes out to everyone who lost their best friends through the contaminated food, and people should rise up in numbers and let the companies know that WE have had enough. Last year, dog's died from contaminated food, also.
When the pet companies are hit with record low profits, ingredients will change or they will go under.

I only feed dry food to my dog (wet food is bad for their teeth), so she wasn’t in any danger.
I think something big needs to be done. This company needs to know that “oops, sorry, our bad” isn’t going to cut it, and it certainly isn't any help to those with sick pets that will never be the same, or pets who have died because of this. I know they obviously didn’t harm any pet on purpose, and even human food is recalled all the time, but that doesn’t make this ok. I don’t know what needs to happen, but I hope they won’t be able to get off unscathed.

I'm glad your dog is going to be okay. My cats and dogs were not affected by the recall because I feed them only dry food. They both get a bit of people food for an extra treat every so often.

Not mine. I usually feed my cats dry food and I use Natural Balance. Dry food was not on the list and neither was Natural Balance in any form.
One of my cats only likes dry food anyway. (She eats to live!) The only other thing she likes is the water off canned tuna.
But my big 'ol buddy, he loves any kind of food and he did have a few bites of canned food from Natural Balance. (He lives to eat!) I make a small can last him 3 days because he is on measured, controlled feeding.

i'm happy your doggie is going to be okay, my 2 cats get mostly dry food, but in they morning they share a can of friskies wet food, which was not part of the recalled cat food. Oh my gosh they are so lucky they didn't make my cats sick, their would hell to pay!!!
I'm so sorry for the loss of your kitty Lou C. Its so sad that innocent animals are dying from something as simple as food.
