Is it originally by Bob Marley or Bobby McFerrin? I have $20 on Bobby McFerrin. He is the original writer, right?

Bob Marley had his song released first, of course. But they are 2 different songs:

This was written about Bobby McFerrin:
His song "Don't Worry, Be Happy" (featured in the 1988 movie Cocktail starring Tom Cruise) was a #1 U.S. pop hit in 1988. Despite that, the song is often miscredited to Bob Marley.

So you can say your right if you want to but Bob Marley died in 1981 and Bobby's song wasnt relesed until 1988

From Wikipedia...you are right...here is some ammo for your $20 collection....

"Don't Worry, Be Happy" is the title and famous principal lyric of a song by popular musician Bobby McFerrin, the first a cappella song to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, holding that position for two weeks in September of 1988.

Some mistakenly believe that the song was written and sung by Bob Marley; some web sites even have the song misfiled under Marley's name

It was Bobby McFerrin. It was his only hit song to reach the pop charts, but i heard he's an indie performer and has quite a following.
