A lot of people's problems with swimming fly is that they drop their hips as soon as they get tired. You want to make sure you keep your hips up when your arms enter the water. Butterfliers need good core strength, so work on a good strong kick, and ab workouts. Your kick should "drive" your upper body out of the water to get a breath, but you want to make sure that you bring those hips back up! Hope this helps!

I hate to say it but practice makes perfect! The more you swim it the better you will get. Try swimming some 100s all fly. Drill your fly for 200s. Start swimming fly on all "stroke" drills where you can get away with it. As a swimmer you know not everyone excels at every stroke. I can't swim breast to save my life and that was my IM issue.

You should be able to swim the first 25 with no breath and the second with 1 or less.

Ask your coach to work with you on this. You can improve and he/she will know more about your stroke than we do.

Good luck!

I think your obstacle here is pacing yourself. If you have a great 25 to start with it means that your form and technique must be good but that you're going out too fast and use up all of your energy during that first length. I'd say conserve more energy and try going a bit slower on your first 25 and then give it a lot of energy on the last 25.

I have that exact problem. Luckily my coach knows enough not to put me in any fly events. In practise though, I think that kicking as hard as you can and not coming up for air every stroke helps.

Practise plenty of drills to improve your shoulder flexibility. Once you have good flexibility, 200m Fly will be a breeze, let alone 200m IM.

I suggest that you keep your head down on the first lap. do two butterfly with the head down then lift it up to breath then put it back down. I also suggest that you pace yourself. Don't rush. also do drill such as dolphin, two two two, and stone skip
